Quintrex 590 Ocean Spirit

With a smooth riding, seaworthy pressed alloy hull, a spacious vee-berth cabin and huge rear cockpit, the Quintrex 590 Ocean Spirit is a versatile fishing/family all-rounder. Revamped for the 2021/22 model year, this 40 knot capable Quinnie cuddy cabin is set to impress.

Like many other “Blade” hull equipped Quintrex models, the Ocean Spirit half cabins received a series of upgrades late in 2021. These practical fishing/family pressed alloy boats gained new, smoother topsides, a revised graphics package, and a more compact transom design. For the 2022 model year, Quintrex has also changed the way new models are presented to customers. To bring the price of each model within reach of more customers, the latest Quinnies start off with a basic level of fit-out with relatively few standard features.

A huge range of options and equipment is then available so customers can buy and fit only the gear they want. In addition, customers can choose from three different, pre-packaged option bundles – which contain a range of the most popular options for that particular model.

The bundles include the Comfort Bundle, the Fishing Bundle, and the Captain’s Bundle. For the Ocean Spirit cabin boats, the Comfort Bundle includes an overhead bimini with envelope, Maritime Sports seats mounted on boxes, and a deluxe rear lounge.

The Fishing Bundle for the Ocean Spirit boats contains a burley bucket, marine radio, transom bait board, LED lighting and LED switching. The Captain’s Bundle includes a Volante sports steering wheel with tilt hydraulic steering – although hydraulic steering is now standard on Quintrex models above 5.0m anyway.

New for the cabin models this year is the option for a Pro model. The Ocean Spirit Pro boats come standard with all the gear contained within the above three option bundles.

Price and packaging

The 590 Ocean Spirit presented for this review was not optioned with any of the Quintrex Boating Bundles. It was also the standard boat – not the upgraded Pro model. Thankfully, the standard model still comes with some decent features – including the large cabin with three quarter length vinyl upholstered berths, carpeted rear cockpit with newly designed upholstered side storage pockets, white painted hull, fully welded side decks, rear boarding platform with ladder, two transducer brackets, and cockpit scuppers for the self draining system Key options on our test rig included an infill cushion for the cabin berths, the folding rear lounge, deluxe Maritime helm chairs, a VHF marine radio, tilt steering wheel, and a Lowrance HDS9 fish finder/GPS.

The test boat was also packaged with a Mercury 150hp Pro XS four-stroke (extralongshaft)outboard and a tandem axle Quintrex trailer with mechanical brakes, giving it a cruiseaway

price of $76,775 at Brisbane Boating And Leisure.

Design

There are now three sizes and six models in the Ocean Spirit boat range. They include the standard and Pro versions of the 520, 540 and 590 Ocean Spirits. These mid-sized pressed alloy cuddy cabins compliment the larger Trident 610, 650, and 690 models – which are made from heavy duty plate alloy.
